please read the numbersusa article below. We have do the same thing...inform all members when the Senators/House Representatives field hearing in their cities/towns and volunteers/members can organize to meet them and explain our problems to them.
If it is possible we can show even documentary in the hearing which IV core team is preparing (if nt slideshow is also effective). Please come up with a strategy for this hearing......:)

yes, I want GC for my wife. 6 months to a year addtional wait is ok. Provided I get cleared soon.

been in us since 1999 and lost my earlier priorty date and now my priority date is Jan 2007...it sucks...the only good thing is i now have EAD and AP. everyone who is here fro last 5-6 years should be current with priority dates..

My employer told me earlier during joining in 2005 that ther will pay for all costs of GC (LC,140,485) now its seems like I have to pay my employer to get the essential documentations for 485 - What a Irony !!!

You wont neccesarily get RFE for omitting the employer's letter. Your 485 CAN GET DENIED.
YOU NEED EMPLOYER'S LETTER THAT STATES THE INTENTION OF HIRING WHEN GC IS APPROVED. Otherwise, as per USCIS memo recently issued, the officer can simply deny the 485 without bothering the send you an RFE to explain the missing document.
The recent memo says that if the "INTIAL EVIDENCE" is missing, then the petition can be denied outrightly without having to send the RFE.

So if USCIS takes an year to process my extension, what are the impacts to me after the current H-1B expires? Would I have issues in traveling?
While your H1 is in pending state and you go out of the country, USCIS would consider it as 'abandoned'.

I was thinking , that maybe , because there are so many of us who have not received FP notices, should probably send a fax or e-mail to ombudsman as a group listing our receipt numbers or maybe just names and tell them the inconsistencies from their side in issuing the FP notices.
I have a good feeling that if the letter/email or fax goes as a group , then they may take some action.
Just a idea , any inputs would be appreciated.

The only (long but possible) way to achieve some results is massive attack of the media. Average American people should realize the problem of the legal immigrants and THEY should start pressing the lawmakers for resolution. In fact there is a very simple solution - every H1/L1 visa should be covered by a GC option, providing that the immigrant has covered all requirements. And the USCIS administration should be pushed to do their job. Now, cunningly, uncle Sam (I would better say the "Edited" people) allows white collar slaves to come to the US, but hides the GC when time comes.
To be honest, I really believe that in 10-15 years time this problem will not exist anymore. Reasons? Several: First, the main donoring countries of white collar slaves are in process of sharp development and soon this source of "blood transfusion" to US will start drying up. Second, with the aging baby-boomers the need of "blood transfusion" will increase. Third, the high flow of low qualified legal/illegal Latinos changes the fabric of the American society and turns it into a Latin-American country, with all negative consequences, so the need of high tech immigrant component will increase. There are more factors but these three are enough.
So, if we are patient, in 10-15 years time the USCIS administration will start sending invitation ads all over the world, inviting legals and we would become proud holders of GCs :-)

Two guys (A and B) come to US in 2005, both do not have MS and experience less than 5 years. Therefore both not elligible for EB2 on 2005. They are from a retrogressed country.
A does MS and joins job in 2007, becomes eligible for EB2 and files GC on 2007.
B joins a job on 2005 that do not need MS and experience and files for EB3.
Till 2010 both of them did not get GC. But B crossed 5 years of experience and from EB3 to EB2. Now B's priority date is 2005, although he was not elligible for EB2 at that time.
Although A was elligible for EB2 in 2007 earlier than B (2010), A is pushed behind B.
SHould it be acceptable to people like A? And there is not one or two pleale like B, thousands arer doing that?
If you see my priority date you will understand I am not saying this for myself. I have a bro and friends who are facing this isssue.
Therefore EB2s who are from mid 2006 onwards will really get pushed back..
I see this porting simillar to the labor substitition.. Till it was in place it was legal although thousands bought labors and that is one main reason EB2 had retrogressed back to 2000. I predict simillar thing is happending again, people are paying money to the desi employers to file perm in EB2 again pretty soon same tertrogression will happen to EB2 I if any urgent action is not taken.
I hace passed this stage.. now its for you all to decide..

I have one question, did you have any trouble while getting mortgage approval? Do you think in the changed scenario in US housing market, people like us will have problems in getting approval b'cos of our residency status and recently tightened regulations?
Well said eager_immi. Getting GC and getting job and earning is not the only thing in life. I have seen many many couple who are gc holders and citizens, giving up their career to bring up the kids for the first few years. This segment includes US citizens ( US Origin) too. Most the of the americans here have their spouse at home to take care of their kids first few years. It is not worth anybody's time and money to have a kid and put them in daycare from day one and go out and earn and pay half of it to daycare.
Enough of above, even my wife is CPA and we are married for 5 years now. She came to US dreaming about working in professional CPA firm. But my ignorance about GC process then cost her her career. She was depressed initially. I am an easy go guy and convinced her not to worry much about job. We planned and now we have 3+ year girl and a 3 weeks+ boy. Getting GC and earning is not everything. It is only very very small part of life. Forget about it and live today's life with what you have. Worry about things which you can control. All other things will follow you automatically. Having kids is in your hand and you have to have this sooner or later. Always, sooner the better and you can use this retrogression as an opportunity to execute those projects instead of worrying over it. GOOD LUCK.
I have one question, did you have any trouble while getting mortgage approval? Do you think in the changed scenario in US housing market, people like us will have problems in getting approval b'cos of our residency status and recently tightened regulations?
Well said eager_immi. Getting GC and getting job and earning is not the only thing in life. I have seen many many couple who are gc holders and citizens, giving up their career to bring up the kids for the first few years. This segment includes US citizens ( US Origin) too. Most the of the americans here have their spouse at home to take care of their kids first few years. It is not worth anybody's time and money to have a kid and put them in daycare from day one and go out and earn and pay half of it to daycare.
Enough of above, even my wife is CPA and we are married for 5 years now. She came to US dreaming about working in professional CPA firm. But my ignorance about GC process then cost her her career. She was depressed initially. I am an easy go guy and convinced her not to worry much about job. We planned and now we have 3+ year girl and a 3 weeks+ boy. Umm, Eb3_Nepa, speeding is breaking the law. A speed limit is the law. In pointing out that a speeder is fined but an illegal immigrant is deported, you are pointing out the difference in punishment for breaking the law. The punishment is man's decree, nothing more, nothing less. One could argue that a speeder can cause more harm to society (by driving way faster than conditions permit, for instance) than an illegal immigrant. Yes, an illegal immigrant is breaking the law, but who knows what we would do if we had a bad life and made $1 a day and someone promises a better paying job in some other country. So let us not point fingers here, but focus instead on the value we add.
You are getting into this discussion late and I have edited/deleted posts, but from my comments you have an idea of what was said. It wasn't productive.
Stucklabour i am not going deep into the illegals issue here. What i am saying is, that if some members sympathise with the illegals, that is perfectly fine with me, you may be more humanitarian than i am and you have a right to be. My point was, that being in the country illegally is considered more of an offence than a speeding violation not by you, or me, or anyone BUT by the US Govt.
Also just to let everyone know i am not pointing any fingers at anyone here. I dont know about you, but let me tell you why I came here. It was not money particularly that brought me here. It was the fact that inspite of doing an Engineering degree, jobs were almost impossible to come by. Inspite of being a BE from a Fairly decent Engineering college in India, i have had to work in conditions Far worse than some of the workers in that company would have to (and this was after holding a supervisor's position). My family could not afford to send me here to study outright, so we scrambled for loans and scholarships. That being done I changed professions to do a Master's in IT and completely change fields. My point is, i did all that by staying WELL under the umbrella of the law. I speak for the many many master's students who come here after studying in India and go thru faily poor student life conditions due to lack of money during college. Once again we did it the LEGAL way. We waited for our turns. You gave me a figure of $1/day that illegals make. I was making Indian Rs 4,500/month (after doing a 4 year bachelors in Engineering) which is abt $3.00/day. I also knew my batch mates making even less than that a month. So does that mean that if i came to the US illegally, i would be justified in doing so coz we were making really less money? Also while staying here, we were 3 roommates accompanied by 3 mice in our apartment and abt 2000 roaches coz the apartment was REALLY old. :) Even there i know lots of my batch mates who underwent similar and worse problems.
Please dont take my post the wrong way, i am sure there are many many more like me who have had it MUCH worse than i did. I dont want to bring my personal problems in public. But when i read things like, "lets put ourselves in their shoes" argument, i could not just sit back and and pretend like it is ok to break the law and actually be rewarded for it.
You are a moderator and by that right you may delete my post, but just to clear matters, i am not againt any community in particular, just against people being rewarded for breaking the law on grounds that they were making less money.
